Care Notes:

Alocasia Frydek is dramatic, velvety, and undeniably striking. With deep green leaves and bold white veins, it looks like a piece of living art. This plant has a reputation for being “difficult,” but in reality, it just wants clear boundaries and consistent care.

Frydek grows from a corm and prefers evenly moist soil, bright indirect light, and higher humidity. It can go dormant if stressed especially in cooler months, which is normal and not a failure. Think of this plant as seasonal and responsive, not fragile.

Light & Placement Tips

  • Bright indirect light is essential

  • Too little light slows growth significantly

  • Avoid direct sun — velvet leaves scorch easily

  • A warm, bright room away from drafts is ideal.

Watering Tips (The Big One)

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
Keep soil lightly moist, never soggy.

Good drainage is critical. Alocasias hate sitting in wet soil.

Common Overwatering Symptoms

  • Yellowing leaves

  • Soft stems or corm rot

  • Sudden leaf collapse

  • Overwatering is the fastest way to upset a Frydek.

Common Underwatering Symptoms

  • Drooping leaves

  • Crispy edges

  • Soil drying out too deeply

  • Extended dryness can trigger dormancy.

Bloom Saloon Tips

If your Frydek drops a leaf, don’t panic. As long as the corm is firm and healthy, new growth will return when conditions improve. This plant teaches patience.
